Students will review what they have learned about the parts of speech in the English Language. They will also learn about devices used in reading and writing English including rhyme, alliteration, similes, metaphors, spoonerisms and idioms of the English Language.
Students will read several texts including The Phantom Tollbooth
. We will also use dictionaries of idioms and the book by Fred Gywnne, The King Who Rained
, to learn more about homonyms. The overall purpose of this Unit is to help students develop the ability to improve their writing and reading skills by better understanding the nuances of the English language. Students will also research biographies of some famous individuals.
